Apple Help is required to hack into San Bernardino’s gunman as District of Central California Federal Judge Sheri Pym has ordered the technology giant Apple to offer “reasonable Apple technical help” to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in order to unlock the locked iPhone 5C, which was used by terrorists who attacked San Bernardino last year. It is known that the iPhone 5C was owned by Syed Rizwan Farook, one of the San Bernardino shooters, and had been used by the attackers in the assault in San Bernardino, California, which killed 14 people in December 2, 2015.
Apple chief Tim Cook opposed the federal order as it breaches customers ID and sensitive data. “The United States Government has demanded that Apple take an unprecedented step which threatens the security of our customers,” says Tim Cook, Apple CEO. “We oppose this order, which has implications far beyond the legal case at hand,” he added.
“The government is asking Apple to hack our own users and undermine decades of security advancements that protect our customers — including tens of millions of American citizens — from sophisticated hackers and cyber criminals,” Tim added.
The new federal decision from the federal judge is being seen as an important victory for the government which has been trying to tap out Apple and other Silicon Valley companies for the purpose of getting access to encrypted data in federal investigations. Apple said that it needed to offer the “keys” to its technology for doing the same and it would compromise the security information of its hundreds of millions of users. The F.B.I. has been unable to penetrate the iPhone 5c used by Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik, who were killed by the police in an attack.
The federal judge’s order to give investigators access to encrypted data on the iPhone is seen as a forceful step by Apple. Federal order to offer the password and access to “relevant, critical … data” on the locked cellphone of Syed Farook is being opposed by Apple.
“Despite … a warrant authorizing the search,” said federal prosecutors. “The government has been unable to complete the search because it cannot access the iPhone’s encrypted content. Apple has the exclusive technical means which would assist the government in completing its search, but has declined to provide that assistance voluntarily,” they added.
